Solo exhibitions
Procedure for applying for an exhibition at the AVA Gallery
The AVA selection committee, elected by AVA board members, meets to review all applications submitted within the open call dates.
The selection committee's decision is based on a majority vote and is final.
The selection committee may request to see the original works before making a final decision.
Feedback regarding acceptance or rejection of your proposal is given at the Director's discretion.
Should your proposal be successful, the selection committee will try to accommodate your preferred date and gallery space. Due to the high number of applications, we may not be able to accommodate every applicant’s preferences, in which case we will allocate (a) gallery space and exhibition dates. You are welcome to accept these dates or not.
Should you be successful and agree to the allocated space and dates, an agreement between you and the AVA will be drawn up concerning your exhibition.
Deadline for submission is 15 August 2020. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered
Please note the following expenses/costs involved in hosting an exhibition at AVA
Rental fee of gallery spaces:
Long Gallery R4 500
Main Gallery R 6 000
Mezzanine Gallery R 3 500
Other expenses not covered by the AVA: catalogue design and printing fee, writer's fee, photography, advertising beyond AVA’s media plan (social and traditional media), framing/mounting of artwork and transportation to and from the gallery.
