Living Space acts as an immersive environment of harmony between cultural elevation and dreamscapes. The collaborating artists Lianca Heemro and Queezy Babaz offer both a space of escape and home.
During these unprecedented times, the reality of home has become complicated. Due to restrictions such as lockdown, there has been a shift in the understanding of what home symbolises and our relationship to our homes. Once a place of comfort and belonging, the home has become a place of confinement, isolation and stagnation. Within the Coloured community, the home and household traditionally play a significant, uniting role as they hold shared familiar, cultural intimacies.
Heemro and Queezy seek to unpack these symbolic cultural norms, to share the essence of the ‘living room’ - a space of connectivity, community and intimate exchange - through a reimagined lens inspired by the surreal.
Curated by Tyra Naidoo and featuring Kamyar Bineshtarigh, the artists aim to create a space of possibility for their national public during a state of seemingly impossible reality.
