BODYLAND: A Site for Contemplation

Visit the AVA for Victory of the Word and Under the Aegis’ exhibition BODYLAND: A Site for Contemplation curated by Anelisa Mangcu in association with Victory of the Word & Under The Aegis. The exhibition explores the landscape of the Amatholes and the Tyhume in particular, who have a rich history of conflict over access to and control of the land. The area was centre stage for the 100 Years War, and home to the University of Fort Hare, with its deep Eastern Cape Intellectual Heritage and now the Black intellectual renaissance of Lovedale Press. This exhibition is the outcome of a year-long residency of participating artists Baz Bailey, Fundiswa Douw, Sisonke Papu, Wezile Hermans & Yonela Makoba. On Investec Cape Town Art Fair’s Gallery Night a performance has been scheduled including the artists and a traditional healer who will lead guests into the main gallery in procession.
