Why do you make art?

I find the practice deeply fulfilling. It generates a thrill and excitement deep within me that I battle to put words to.

Has your practice developed over time, if so how?

Yes, it has. My focus has shifted from using my medium to its best advantage to using the medium to describe and express my thoughts.

What do you do when you experience an artistic block? I carry on drawing, giving myself the space to doodle and draw rubbish. I read and look through pictures and try not to focus on the block, slowly I find that ideas start coming to me from left field.

What’s the best life lesson being an artist has taught you? Self motivation and discipline.

What is the most challenging thing about being an artist? Finding your true and authentic intention and keeping that going.

Ghostscapes by Philippa Allen will be on exhibition in the Mezzanine Gallery until 19.11.20.
